Bah. Buy his first album, "David Bowie" and then tell me he was punk to begin with. On that note, "Love You Till Tuesday" would be a decent choice.

I really think "Secret Agent Man" was a questionable choice since there was a great Spanish version of the "Repo Man" soundtrack.

    The Ballad of Ira Hayes? Not originally Cash, I don't think, and Dylan had a version as well, but a good song, and a CDNow search doesn't seem to turn up any rock versions of it.

    A) You're a punk band. Fuck political correctness.

    B) Ira Hayes is about an Indian, who, despite the way the white man treated him, fought for the white man and became a war hero. But, at least the way the song seems to tell it, he was so upset about the way the white man continued to treat his people that he drank himself to death. Sure, the Indians have this negative stereotype as being drunks, but overall, the song makes the whites look like badguys, which seems OK for political correctness. At least, that's the way I interpret the song.

    I'm just saying the perception of the song.

    Trust me, I've sung it a million times in country bands. But punk fans are stupid in general. I'm trying to figure out what audience to aim this stuff at.

    Caveat: this computer has no speakers, so I have no real idea of what you mean by "ruin". But generally speaking I'm a huge fan of bastardized folk songs, particularly deep Appalachian modal stuff. 'Babylon is Fallen' springs immediately to mind.

    Or else dig up old Stalinist propaganda songs, if such things are still around.
