For this so called "christmas", I would like a new mansion built on my South African estate. Please make sure the contractors who build my site are under the age of 13. We don't need any geezers working on my buildings.

While downtown today, I noticed (none / 0) (#2)

that there were microphones in the glass-enclosed Santa booth, broadcasting Santa's conversations with the various visiting urchins who'd waited patiently in line to visit him.

I joined the queue and Santa winked at me when I approached. Sure, I'm on the downhill slide towards 40 and I don't believe in the commericalized aspects of the holiday season, but I'm small enough to not be physically intimidating and cute enough to get away with any whim I'm willing to act upon. And there was a microphone with a guaranteed audience... I just couldn't miss the opportunity, really.

A cheer went up when I asked for nothing less and nothing more than a day of peace for all, one day with grace and without fear. And Santa gave me a hug and said he'd do his best; it's enough to keep me hopeful.

That was really nice, chloedancer. I'm pushing 30, but I still love the mystery and wonder of the holidays-- including strangers in Santa suits passing out candy canes in malls. ;)

And I still honestly believe that this world could be a nice place in which to live-- a place without prejudice, war, violence and hatred-- even if only for one day, if we wanted it to be that way. It's a nice dream to hang onto. :)

After leaving Santa's company, I returned to the company of my friends waiting outside the booth to engage in a round of hugs. In my company was a long-time friend who shall remain nameless, but bears an amazing resemblance to the Judeo-Christian countenance of none other than Jesus Himself (people are always doing a double-take when they see him -- it's highly amusing). With any luck, an urban legend may result! :)
